Origins of Queens Park
 
Did You know the park was originaly called Bolton Park,
But in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year was renamed Queen's Park in 1897.
 
Contributors to the park
In 1864 William Henderson from Birkenhead prepared plans for the park.
 
In November 1864 the first piece of land was purchased from, The Ecclesiastical Commissioners, a second portion being purchased from a Miss Pilkington. A final piece of the was aquired from the estate of a Mr Tipping.
 
The Park, was finally opened on May 24th 1866 by The Earl of Bradford
 
Did you know that,many years ago Soldiers pitched their tents in the Spa Road recreational ground
 
Also that a Zeppelin Bombed Queens Park On the Night of 26th September 1916

Did you know that the mummies now on display in the Bolton Museum used to be kept within a natural history museum in the then Chadwick's Museum in Queens Park on Park Road? - started in 1878 by Mr. R.K.Freeman, - opened 1884) , built by Samuel Chadwick, The Chadwick museum closed in 1955, and the building was demolished in 1957.
 
Part of what is now Queens Park fishing ponds were part of the water system of Bridson's bleach works.
 
The Elephants from the Chorley Street entrance of the bleach works are now in Victoria Square on the canopy.
